I Received These Stencils in Exchange for Some Hard-Core Testing & a Review…
However, All Unabashed Love is Entirely My Own!
Glitter and Mod Podge…what could be better? Oh, yeah, MOD PODGE STENCILS! What?!?! Yeah, you heard me. The incredible Amy from Mod Podge Rocks was asked by Mod Podge to come up with a product idea, and what she came up with is brilliant…these amazing self-stick stencils specifically for the use with Mod Podge and glitter. I was immediately sold on the idea and was more than excited when Amy reached out to a Facebook Group that I’m in (since we are fellow ATL-ers) asking for some people to try her new product out. No-brainer. I’m in. The hardest part was trying to decide which pattern to choose! It didn’t take me long to decide on the keys, and it took me even less time to decide what project to do…this Easy Key to My Heart Art Tutorial w/ Mod Podge Stencils.

1. Paint Your Hearts
Your first step is going to be to paint hearts on each of your three canvases, and “dry” paint the edges, if you’d like.
Since I am female and have been drawing hearts since I was a little girl, I decided to free hand this. I wasn’t counting on my hands being shaky from not eating all day. Whoops. My first heart started out as solid red…but I really didn’t like it so I kept trying to “fix” it. It’s kind-of a red and pink blobby mess now, but I guess that’s okay… My other two hearts are a little better and are solid pink. How can you go wrong with pink and black? Next time I’ll probably use a template…or at least draw it on first!
2. Secure Your Stencil
Once the paint is dry, remove your Mod Podge Stencil from the protective backing and place in the desired location on your painting. Make sure the stencil is smoothed out and there are no bubbles, especially around the edges. Don’t like where you’ve put it? No biggie! You can move it!
3. Pounce Your Mod Podge On
Using the handy-dandy little pouncers (okay, technically it’s a sponcer), cover the opening on your stencil with Mod Podge. Carefully remove your stencil.
Be really careful not to get Mod Podge in the openings of the adjacent pattern…I may have done that…about four times! Also, try to wash your stencil off while the Mod Podge is still wet…it makes it easier. (So does putting it back on the protective backing before washing.)
4. Add Glitter
Shake what your mama gave you…uh, I mean…shake your glitter onto your Mod Podge…and then shake your canvas to remove the excess.
Personally, I probably could have left it looking like this. But I also totally dig black, pink, and silver.
5. And Repeat.
Repeat the process for all three canvases. You’ll notice some stray glitter…
6. Blow Off Excess Glitter
Once all three canvases are complete and the Mod Podge has had a few minutes to dry, blow off the excess glitter.
I thought about using a turkey baster to do this (yeah, I actually tried it), but it took too long. Spreading it all over the kitchen table and onto the cats was much more fun anyway! Despite my defunct hearts, I think the little canvases are kind of cute! I love the glitter, of course!
7. Spray with Acrylic Sealer
Make sure you’re in a well ventilated area and follow the directions on your sealer.
I really liked the canvases once I got the sealer on…it made everything look a little more polished and defined. And now I hopefully won’t spread anymore glitter around…
8. Enjoy Your Art!
Check it out. You just made sparkly awesome art work!
Yes, I wish my hearts and key placement were a little better. But there’s no such thing as a mistake in art! (And I’m going to keep on telling myself that…)
I love the sparkly close-up.
What do you think?!?! Are you as excited about these Mod Podge Stencils as I am? Which pattern is your favorite?
