Whether you’re getting ready for Halloween or just the Fall season, who doesn’t love a simple (and super quick) DIY pumpkin craft? Especially these cute little felt pom-pom pumpkins! There’s virtually no mess involved and just about anyone can make them. If you’re feeling super adventurous, you can even make them into tiny little jack-o-lanterns!
All that you’ll need to make the DIY Felt Pom-Pom Pumpkins is:
- 2″ Orange Pom-Poms
- Leaf-shaped sequins
- Sequin Pins
- Brown Pipe Cleaner
- Black Glitter Glue (optional)
I purchased all of my supplies (minus the scissors) at Hobby Lobby, and I believe it was actually all on the same aisle!
Your first step will be to cut the stems for the pumpkins from your pipe cleaner. I had six pom-poms so I cut six stems into approximately 1′ pieces. I didn’t measure…after all, no two pumpkins are alike!
Next, line up the holes on two of your leaf sequins and stick the pin through. While holding the leaves at the top of the pin, wrap one end of your pipe cleaner around the pin–just once will do. Slide the folded end of the pipe cleaner up against the leaves so it’s all sitting at the top of the sequin pin.
While this was all very simple to do, the explanation of this step seems cumbersome and confusing to me. Unfortunately, I’m not sure that my picture helped all that much. Hopefully it will make more sense when you see the finished product. If not, please feel free to ask questions!
Finally, stick your pin (with the leaves and stem attached) through the top middle of your pom-pom. You need to make sure to hit the “thick” center or your pin won’t stay in place. It’s not always at the exact center, so you may need to poke around a little. You’ll feel the difference when you hit it.
Unless you want to add little faces, you’re now done!
I attempted to use the black glitter glue and turn these into little jack-o-lanterns. That was my original plan. Until I tried. I’ve now put those two little pumpkins in the Pumpkin Protection Program because they were, well, bad. And no one needs to find them.
I think the DIY Felt Pom-Pom Pumpkins are pretty cute without faces, don’t you? They’re simple, soft, and cute! (But I do need to remind you that because of the little leaves, pipe cleaner, and the sharp little pin they are NOT toys.)
My little pumpkins are currently sitting on the ledge of the big window in our staircase. That’s the only place the cats can’t reach them!!! They look nice there, too. Just a little something festive to brighten up the stairs.
Where will you put your pumpkins? Any ideas on how to improve them? I’d love to hear (and see!) what you come up with!
